The mission of the Mental Health Association is to promote mental health, with the integration of physical healthcare, to improve the care and treatment of individuals with mental illness, and to remove the stigma associated with mental health disorders and addictions. As a community organization, we accomplish our mission through advocacy, education, prevention, early intervention, treatment and service.

Our Main Morris County office location has moved to 1160 Parsippany Boulevard, Parsippany, NJ, which is centrally located and easily accessible to public transportation for our clients.
This new location will bring in new opportunities for MHA as well as a chance to further enhance our services to serve our communities better.

The Essex County Legislative Breakfast event featured more than 300 elected officials, executives, stakeholders and community members who spoke on issues pertaining to mental health, as well as opportunities to address ongoing developments, and current challenges facing the field.
The Annual Legislative Breakfast represents an opportunity to initiate dialog with state, county and local representatives regarding issues of concern to the mental health community. It also serves as a vehicle for elected officials to share their positions with us on legislative matters that have the potential to impact individuals and families whose lives are affected by mental illnesses and/or behavioral disorders.
By using the Annual Legislative Breakfast as a forum for speaking out on behalf of our society’s most vulnerable citizens, the Essex County Mental Health and Addiction Coalition is committed to bringing about meaningful and lasting change within the mental health system.

"Daily life can be a challenge for anyone, let alone someone with a mental health issue. Most of my life, I was struggling with mental illness, addiction and the results of making bad choices and being in abusive relationships. Going through that journey was so lonely, but deep down, I knew I wanted to do better for myself."
MHA advocates to improve the care and treatment of individuals with mental illness, and to remove the stigma associated with emotional and mental disorders.
On November 2nd, MHA held an Artist’s Reception: Photo Voice – Moments in Time Exhibit at the Montclair Public Library.
Photo Voice is a process by which people can identify and represent their community’s strengths, concerns, and unique perspective, by using photography as their voice. A special thank you to Aging in Montclair, Inc., Montclair Public Library, and all the participants who shared their personal thoughts on aging.
This exhibit will be on view at the library in the café area until November 28.

MHA held their Annual Coffee with a Veteran social event on November 2nd, where individuals from the public are able to spend some time chatting with local veterans over a cup of coffee (along with other drinks and snacks). Many attended to support and thank our veterans, including Heather Darling, Morris County Surrogate.
MHA assists local veterans and their families who reside in Morris County, providing them with psychotherapy services and group counseling support to their family and friends.

The Montclair Run supports the YMCA’s chronic disease programs which provide opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential.

MHA staff wore pink for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October to bring awareness to breast cancer, screening exams, and show support and solidarity with women and men around the world.
1 in 8 women, along with 1 in 833 men, in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. With early detection through mammography, ultrasound, and regular self examination, the chances of early discovery and treatment are higher.

MHA’s Annual Employee Appreciation Breakfasts were held this past week! Each MHA location was given a continental breakfast to enjoy before heading out into the field.
