Facts & Fiction About Mental Illness – Art Therapy Based Workshop for Youth

October 3, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

Did you know that 1 in 5 children have a parent who suffers from mental illness? The stats are significant yet the mental health support for these children is minimal.

The Mental Health Association’s (MHA) Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) is aiming to fill this need by designing a special art-based curriculum for youth (7-12 yrs.) who have a family member (i.e., parent, sibling, cousin, etc.) experiencing mental health issues.

MHA’s art therapists and licensed counselors will facilitate a 2-part workshop that will provide youth with a supported space to receive age-appropriate mental health education, develop connection with peers, and creatively express themselves through art.

This workshop will be held in person at the Montclair Public Library during the following days and times:

Monday, October 3rd from 4 pm to 5 pm
Monday, October 10th from 4 pm to 5 pm

Our hope is to launch an ongoing, art therapy support group for graduates of this workshop series, which will be held throughout the school year.

If you have any questions or would like to register for this workshop, feel free to contact Genaya Palmer at gpalmer@mhainspire.org to register in advance.

If you have a teen who would like support, please have them reach out to gpalmer@mhainspire.org
